Kannagi District Mural with Asian Paints and St+Art India.
Contributing to urban regeneration + community living via contemporary urban art projects, St+Art is a nonprofit organisation that is changing the face of public spaces in India. Each new edition of festivals and public art districts brings to civic spaces curated interventions, which are embedded in urban culture, and activate alternative spaces for art enabling people to reimagine how public spaces can be utilised.
For 2022 edition, St+Art invited me to design and execute a mural and lead a workshop for the community. The brief was to instil hope and evoke a sense of belonging in the Kannagu community.
Concept: This is an imaginative space that serves as a gateway to a bright and hopeful tomorrow. It begins with a rising sun which perfectly symbolises hope. The rooms in the mural function as aspirational avenues and are connected to one another using ladders and staircases. Through my multi-layered work, this mural invites the audience to move to diverse realms and inspires them to shape their shared futures.
Over 10 days, in sweltering Chennai heat, I spent my best days trying to make something that would make residents life a little brighter.
